"Our people are amazing!"

This past Shabbat a blaze broke out and swept through Havat Gilad, a farm in northern Shomron forcing 100 families to evacuate.

Nir Amitai from Kibbutz Lahav in the Negev canceled his entire schedule and decided to drive to Havat Gilad with a car loaded with produce from his farm - honey, olive oil and fresh vegetables.

"Hello, I'm Nir, I came to see if help is needed and to bring you a few things from our farm" - that was the first thing he said to four women he met there. One of them started crying. He cried with her.

"There was a moment there that, for me, contained 3,800 years of a people's existence. That people burns down, time and again, and blossoms anew. Together." Nir met a mother with 10 children who doesn't know where they'll sleep tonight, saw the woodshed that was destroyed, and the home of Yael Shevach, who lost her husband in a terror attack and now also all her memories that went up in flames.

But he also saw a spark of hope: A man who lost his home told him that he's already telling his children to look ahead - and they're starting right away to plan the new home.

Nir said, "I left this visit in awe. I drew strength, right before Tisha B'Av. We have an amazing people and an amazing country, in every corner, from every sector, in every part of the land. If only we'd learn to love and accept one another."
